Taunton Deane Familiarisation Day


Thank you for signing up for the Familiarisation Day run by Somerset RC Tri in support of their club race day.

The club coaches and membership turn out to help familiarise you with the day, the race, the sport and to ease those nerves as well as answer those nagging questions.

We are all shapes, sizes and standards having one thing in common we all had our first race day therefore we all understand what you are going through.  Moreover, we all like nothing better than talking about triathlon!

Please ask as many questions as you need if you are unsure just ambush one of the members.

There will be an introduction then you will be made up into groups as per your perceived standard, race distance and aims.  We then run a round robin followed by a familiarisation ride out over the route (With stops for questions and briefings by the guides and escorting members). Then a trot around the run course again with stops for questions etc.

The day will run as follows:


0900     Bike Maintance   - Max Sauter

0930     INTRODUCTION to the day 

0945     Groups will be assigned according to ability and event

1000      ROUND ROBIN consisting of approximatly 20 minutes on each of the following areas:     

  •   Swimming Pool and Race Day Swim Procedures  - Chris Gunn
  •  Transition "Dos and Don'ts" - Gary Bell
  •  Top Triathlon Tips - Jo Carritt

1105     RIDE GROUPS DEPART,  either 23km or 13km routes, lead by members of Somerset RC Tri                                                                  

1200    Rides expected to return....and after a short break....RUN GROUPS DEPART for 2.5km lap

1230    All Run Groups, expected to be back 

1245    Cool down and a chance for final Q & A with clib members


We'll be outside for most of the day - so please do check the weather forecast for the day, and dress appropriatley (& consider sunscreen if we're that lucky! ).

  • Bring an extra layer of warm clothing for the Intro/Round Robin. 
  • For the Rides: Bicycle, Helmet (Mandatory), Cycle Clothing, basic tools/spares ( ie pump and puncture kit) 
  • For the Run: Run Shoes and Run Clothing 
  • Drinks and snacks (will also be available to purchaase in the sports centre) 

You will not be swimming as part of the FD
