Taunton Marathon and Half Marathon

A fine, dry but cool morning heralded the start of the Taunton Marathon and Half Marathon. There was an excellent entry from the club with 23 club members entered for the Half Marathon and Matt Price the only entry for the full Marathon.

There were a number of us who were doing the Taunton Half for the first time myself (although I have done a half marathon before at Wimbleball), Sue Fulford and Nigel Callun (if I've missed anyone else off, please let me know and I will add you in).

First time this year there was "chip timing" so the start was somewhat different that I remember watching in previous years. Instead of a mass start in Wellington Road, the start was in the bus bay outside SCAT and you sort of stood in your estimated time area (which I couldn't really see - so I just stood where everyone else was). When the gun went off for the start you sort of shuffled with the masses towards the start and when you went over the timing matt your time started.

It was great running up closed roads and through the town centre.

A good days racing was had by all and there were some excellent results. Grant Butler was placed 3rd local male, Julie Rowe was placed 2nd local female and 1st in the F30 category and the Somerset RC Tri ladies won the unaffiliated ladies team.
